My assistant attended your presentation at the NICE mini-conference and suggested I contact you. I currently have a blog on Blogger, but the moderation parameters aren't working properly (the posts are going directly to the blog instead of to my email...a dangerous thing in middle school). I also set one up in edublogs, but it looks as though I have to be a supporter before I can add authors/contributors. Is that correct? If you have students post, do you first have the post come to your email, and if so, has that worked 100% correctly?

Thanks for your help!

Great post about the day, Amy. I can't believe your kids got to come to school in costume! Ours (are supposed to) bring theirs and change after lunch. But it's a lost instructional day, anyway :)

However, once again technology saves the day! What a fantastic experience you had - thanks for sharing it. We'll be keeping an eye on and visiting your blog from http://roomtwelve.com

[...] Days as Lyrics - Take Two! this week has been tiring, as a teacher, as a team-member. teaching writing is awesome, and exhausting. i feel like the more i know, the more i know i’m not doing. it will get better, i’m sure, but for now, i’m tossing in some lyrics … [...]

My second to oldest daughter, Josephine (22) took off for her world trip with her boy friend and lover just over a month ago. She is traveling up through Peru at the moment and will cross USA early next year, thence to Ireland, Britain and Europe.

She is a great kid, with sense, brains and ambition. Though she takes off sometimes like a rocket with a short fuse, she has far more direction - and we all love her. This week she sent us all presents from Peru.

Here, Billy Joel's 'Vienna Waits For You' has lyrics that in many ways are apt for Josephine:

Slow down, you crazy child
you're so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you're so smart, tell me
Why are you still so afraid?

Where's the fire, what's the hurry about?
You'd better cool it off before you burn it out
You've got so much to do and
Only so many hours in a day

But you know that when the truth is told..
That you can get what you want or you get old
You're gonna kick off before you even
Get halfway through
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you're doing fine
You can't be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight
Tonight,...
Too bad but it's the life you lead
you're so ahead of yourself that you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you're wrong, you know
You can't always see when you're right. you're right

You've got your passion, you've got your pride
but don't you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you crazy child
and take the phone off the hook and disappear for awhile
it's all right, you can afford to lose a day or two
When will you realize,..Vienna waits for you?
And you know that when the truth is told
that you can get what you want or you can just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even get half through
Why don't you realize,. Vienna waits for you
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

You get smaller as the world gets big
The more you know you know you don't know shit
"The Whiz Man" will never fit you like "The Whiz Kid" did

So why you gotta act like you know when you don't know?
It's OK if you don't know everything
So why you gotta act like you know when you don't know?
It's OK if you don't know everything

Kids today gettin' old too fast
they can't wait to grow up so they can kiss some ass
They get nostalgic about the last ten years
before the last ten years have passed
